Martin Luther King Day
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and Learning
We invite individuals, congregations, and organizations to join City Mission Society in a day of celebration and service on Saturday, January 14, 2012!
Make it a day on, not a day off!
Format:
Participants will travel directly to their service sites and work from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. we will gather at United Parish in Brookline for lunch and closing reflections.
Volunteer Activities:
- Cleaning and painting at the NEWTON COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER.
- Painting and general cleaning at RUSSELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Dorchester.
- Assembling LEGO Biology Kits at MIT with PEOPLE MAKING A DIFFERENCE/BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
- Preparing meals and sorting clothes at the historic PILGRIM CHURCH in Dorchester.
- Packaging books at PRISON BOOK PROGRAM in Quincy.
Proposed Schedule:
9:15 a.m. Arrive at Assigned Service Site
9:30 - 12:30 p.m. Service at Assigned Site
12:30 - 1:00 p.m. Transportation back to United Parish, Brookline
1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Lunch, Music & Entertainment, Closing Celebration
