In Memoriam: Mayor Thomas Menino
The people of the City of Boston have lost one of our most dedicated servants and advocates. Tom Menino has been "lifted up to the life eternal". For all of us in public service, social justice, or charitable work, Tom was a model. He showed us how to put God and family first - and to work tirelessly for the City he loved. Even as Mayor Menino sat down daily with the powerful - the presidents and princes of the world - his first loyalty was always with his fellow Bostonians. He was never more at home than when he met with ordinary, regular folks in the city's neighborhoods from the youngest to the oldest. The people "outside the gates" - the most vulnerable, children and the elderly, homeless and powerless - were Tom Menino's constituency.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Tom's wife Angela and their family. The entire City Mission Society of Boston family joins all our fellow Bostonians in both giving thanks for the life of Thomas Menino and grieving his loss.
The weather's starting to change, which means that winter in Boston is right around the corner and our annual COAT BOSTON event is gearing up.
Our goal this year is to collect 2000 new winter coats to keep Boston kids warm!
Wondering how you can help? There are plenty of ways to help us reach our goal:
Host a coat party
Host an online coat party
Donate money to help us buy coats
COAT BOSTON is possible because of our generous corporate sponors and supporters like you. Thank you for helping us keep Boston kids warm!
